A (Very) Brief and Incomplete Biography


Name: The Doctor (Eighth Incarnation)

Canonical point which your character is entering game: Some time after “The Enemy Within” (the 1996 TV movie)


Appearance: 5'10, blue eyes and chestnut hair. He habitually wears Edwardian period clothing, usually including a wing-collared shirt, a brocaded waistcoat, a silk cravat with a diamond stickpin, a green velvet frock coat and a pair of borrowed (but extremely well-fitting) dress shoes. The frock coat has transdimensional pockets (bigger on the inside), and can hold a multitude of interesting but ultimately useless things.

As a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, he appears to be in his mid-thirties, but is actually more than one thousand years old. Though he appears human, he has two hearts, a respiratory bypass system, a core body temperature of sixty degrees Fahrenheit and a very fast metabolism. He can survive on only a few hours of sleep per week.


Character's History: After his seventh persona died on an operating table following a San Francisco gang shooting in 1999, the Doctor regenerated with difficulty in the hospital's morgue. The lingering influence of the administered anesthesia induced a case of amnesia, although the Doctor recovered his memories after several hours had passed. However, the trauma has left him susceptible to recurring bouts of amnesia.

Shortly after his regeneration, the Doctor saved the world (again) from his arch-nemesis the Master, with the help of cardiologist Dr. Grace Holloway. After the day was saved, Grace turned down the Doctor's offer to travel with him, so he set off on his own, turning the TARDIS to places and times unknown...


Character Personality: The Eighth Doctor's personality is deceptively simple: at first glance, he appears to be a cheerful, distracted and somewhat oblivious fellow, waltzing through life with nary a care. However, this seemingly open facade masks an ancient and weary soul, long inured to the evil that permeates the universe, an evil that he has sworn to combat. He is a staunch pacifist and will not intentionally cause harm to others, even at the risk of his own health; when trying to commandeer a police motorcycle, he once held himself hostage by pointing the police officer's gun at himself rather than at the officer. He will not hesitate to challenge tyranny or evil whenever he finds it, though he wishes to settle any conflict peaceably.

This Doctor is a perennial optimist, always seeing the best in people and situations. He lives his life in the now, rarely planning ahead. Lighthearted and friendly, he never seems to be able to hold onto a grudge (though he may simply lack the attention span necessary to keep one). Despite these sterling characteristics, however, he can also be childish, self-absorbed, condescending and stubborn. (He is also, due to his advanced age and varied travels, a shameless name-dropper.)

He is a genius at mechanical tinkering, an accomplished violinist, a mediocre artist and a very bad chess player. He is fond of many things, especially opera, literature, tea and chocolate.
